Exclamation
Kinetic Sculpture
Details
This kinetic sculpture is inspired by the work of Alexander Calder, the American sculptor who is best known for his innovative mobiles.
Through the years I have become particularly interested in kinetic sculptures and in creating gently moving graphical structures. Mobiles' appearance is always changing. They seem to have a life of their own and they are fascinating and surprising to look at. This sculpture is even more interesting as its shapes are painted with different finishes on both sides. I used colorful oil paint on one side and partly oxidized gold and copper leaf on the other side. As the mobile moves, the gold/ copper leaf catches the ambient light in an interesting way.
This piece is titled: “Exclamation” in reference to the stylised exclamation mark shape situated in the center of the artwork.
This very light sculpture is easily suspended with a simple open hook installed in the ceiling. It comes fully assembled.
